Sebastion Vettel racing in the 2011 Singapore Grand Prix

The Singapore Grand Prix is over and Sebastion Vettel is one point away from winning the 2011 World Championship title. Since RedBull has dominated the F1 world for the last two years I thought it would be fun to consider why they are so good. The first answer to come to mind is that Vettel is just an incredible talent on the track. But aside from that the car is the greatest piece of machinery on the grid. Ferrari driver Filippe Massa said it best on Speedtv.com’s website “Red Bull have managed to develop a car that is capable of being fast and reliable on any track and in any kind of temperature.” In a word, they are adaptable.

When you think about it RedBull’s F1 team teaches a lot about success of the track as well. First we have to be a top performer like Sebastion Vettel. Willing to learn from mistakes and successes, honing out skills. But we also need to be adaptable; especially in today’s economy. Its not enough to develop some skills and hone those skills. We need to constantly develop new skills and leverage old skills.

Then there the matter of a team. RedBull wouldn’t be on the brink of a championship if it weren’t for the hard work of engineers, pit crew, sponsors, and drivers. We have to build out own strong team to be a success as well. So surround yourself with smart people you can trust, people who will encourage you to reach for your dreams and someone to keep accountable. With a strong adaptable team, good work ethic and a goal to reach, there is no reason why you can’t have a championship season too.
